Technologies
100% differential locks
The G-Class has three 100% differential locks: claw locks in the front and rear axle differentials and a 100% lockable multi-plate clutch in the transfer case. These can be locked in order to master even the most difficult off-road passages in which, in extreme cases, only one wheel can build up traction. The locking of the three differentials means that the same speed is evenly distributed to all four wheels – regardless of the traction of the respective wheel. This allows the wheels that have traction to transmit the driving forces and provide propulsion.
Ladder frame
On difficult terrain, only stamina counts. There is no giving in here, no retreating. This is about character. And strength of character shows in the backbone. In the case of the G-Class, this has always been the particularly robust ladder frame. Made from sheet steel up to 3.4 millimeters thick, the ladder-type frame is significantly better suited to tough off-road use than self-supporting bodies. In addition, the decoupling of the noise excitation from the chassis and the road ensures a lower noise level in the interior and thus ensures more driving comfort.
Low range
Even the most difficult conditions cannot harm the new G-Class. Thanks to the off-road reduction, the shift ranges of the 9G-TRONIC transmission adapt to off-road and uphill driving. As soon as the LOW RANGE button on the center console is activated, the torque at the wheels increases. This makes it possible to drive on very difficult terrain, to start off on extreme inclines and to drive downhill with a significantly increased braking effect.
Exterior
The unique DNA of the G-Class was created around 40 years ago. Iconic elements that give it a unique look, now as then. Its functional, robust front has kept its character for decades. Clear lines and large, flat surfaces determine the side view. The two large windows in the rear and the exposed spare wheel on the tailgate are characteristic. The striking wheel arch linings and the wide track ensure a dominant appearance.
Interior
The completely revised interior design has reached a new level: the highest. The design language and the proportions in the interior leave no doubt that this is the new G-Class: self-confident, angular, iconic. It’s as if nature was the inspiration for the generous, spacious interior of the G-Class. The new space concept makes the G-Class a model of generosity and comfort for all occupants.
On-road performance
9G TRONIC
With nine forward gears, this automatic transmission takes efficiency, comfort and dynamics to a whole new level. It impresses with even faster gear changes and smoother gear changes. At the same time, the 9G-TRONIC helps to reduce fuel consumption.
DYNAMIC SELECT
A comfortable, sporty, efficient or completely individual driving behavior can be called up with DYNAMIC SELECT using the finger rocker. Depending on the driving program selected, parameters such as the characteristics of the steering, drive including reject flaps, ECO start-stop function, ESP®, assistance systems and chassis are adjusted.
Ambient lighting
The ambient lighting stages the interior like a work of art. Its ten color worlds emphasize the technically modern atmosphere and structure the room. In a dynamic mode, colors even alternate. Emotional effect: Colors underscore the temperature setting.
COMAND Online
COMAND Online leaves nothing to be desired in terms of infotainment, navigation and communication. The information is displayed in high resolution on the 12.3-inch display of the multimedia system. The hard disk navigation guides you quickly to your destination with the help of Live Traffic Information[1], traffic data in almost real time.

The G-Class, for example, only leaves its place of origin after more than 100 production hours – and that has meanwhile been done more than 300,000 times.

In the beginning there was a vision: How do you build the perfect off-road vehicle? What followed were a number of development steps full of passion and dedication, characterized by a love of detail and care that can still be felt in every G today. Everything combined with the desire to be able to experience the joy we feel building the G-Class anew later on every journey.
